Tuscan landscapes look as if they are painted by a romantic painter. Castles are an important part of our scenery. Most of the castles have been turned into spectacular wineries or residences, we can go there. So we will have a lucky access to the gate of fairy tales.

Tuscan castles have wonderful Italian gardens that can be visited. We could also have a picnic or an afternoon break there...

The contradas of Siena

Siena is one of the world's heritage by UNESCO. It is a Medieval town still based on its ancient traditions despite modernity and tourism. The strongest of its traditions is the Palio horse race. The Palio is run twice a year, but Sienese folk lives the Palio all year long. Siena is divided into 17 contradas ( neighborhoods), which are very ancient communities, feeling much rivalry and competition. We can breathe this feeling all year long, visiting one of wonderful contradas museums where all heirlooms, Medieval original costumes and prizes are still proudly preserved.
Duration: 2 hours, plus transfer from your accommodation back and forth*Bea's suggestion: Siena also the location of the biggest farmers' market in the area, held once a week in the morning. We could take advantage of our trip to the town!

Saffron was considered gold by Tuscans in the ancient past. This delicious and colorful spice grows and can be tasted in the San Gimignano area. Farms with great views on the Medieval towers of San Gimignano will be happy to show us how they grow saffron and let us taste this delicacy. We will have time to visit San Gimignano too of course.

A very pleasant walk along the Via Francigena, or on a restored ancient railway, opened on typical landscapes will take us to an Agriturismo (farmhouse), where we will enjoy a very Tuscan lunch/dinner with the farmers.Requirements: casual/sportswear

Maybe Tuscany is so beautiful because men work with nature and not against it? ;-)Let's discover unexplored real Tuscan farms! This tour can be specially customized for kids, letting them touch lambs, goats, rabbits, chicken and horses. The farmer will show us his work.The farm tour might end with a lunch with the farmers, including homemade pasta.
